A quick call out for this special event over the weekend from Friends of Williamstown Wetlands: Late last year Friends of Williamstown Wetlands received a grant under the Victorian Government’s Litter Hotspots Program to survey the litter collecting along our coast. Hobsons Bay City Council is our partner in this project. We are fortunate to have some beautiful areas in Hobsons Bay, rich in bird life and native vegetation. Litter poses a serious threat to the birds and the marine life along our coastline. FOWW and HBCC along with Friends of Greenwich Bay, Jawbone Marine Sanctuary Care group, Scab Duty and 3016 Beach Patrol are working to reduce the litter as much as possible with the aim of reducing litter in the future. Parks Victoria is also providing assistance with our project. For over six months we have been monitoring litter coming into selected areas around Williamstown and Newport to determine the source of the litter. Next month we will present our findings to HBCC and the wider community to decide on future actions to minimise litter in our area. All welcome to our ‘Clean up weekend’ | Quick details: Wader beach for birds not litter: 1st & 2nd August 10.00 am - 4.00 pm Meet and sign in at the Jawbone Marine Sanctuary Care Group flag (Mel 55 H9) Free BBQ lunch RSVP for catering to [email protected] |
