Hobsons Bay Council held an official opening of the new Newport Community Hub in Mason Street, Newport on Saturday 3 September 2016 from 10am to 1pm with a range of free and fun activities, including roving performers, face painting, book making and craft activities, live music and more. Transition Hobsons Bay were invited to participated and held a Stall, providing herbal teas and seeds for the garden. It was a really fun day, and THBer's enjoyed handing out free seeds and herbal teas and chatting about local initiatives and gardening.
The first of the Grow your own Orchard workshops was a successful event with approximately 25-30 people on board to assist with the soil preparation, digging and tree planting. The end result is still being nurtured and a 2nd workshop will be held on Sunday 18th September, 10am - 1pm to install the irrigation system, mulch and explore more learning around fruit trees.
