Working Groups
Working group are our means to creating a more positive picture for our community by identifying a theme or topic or project and then setting up a working group to explore our combined response. The group may be working to achieve an objective (for example - preparing events for the Sustainable Living Festival) or providing on-going support (THB Livelihoods Group) or helping to launch a new program (Inner West Commons LETs). And new groups are encourage to form to further explore the many diverse ways we can live cleaner, greener, and more connected. The ideas are energy for living sustainably is out there; so let's continue to create together, some great initiatives to transition
The most up-to-date information about Working Groups can be found on our Facebook page.
Livelihoods Group
This groups meets approximately every 4 weeks and provides a touch base for people actively looking for employment, CV updates and a general checkin. A few key ideas are currently being explored among the group and the actions below relate to these:
- Creating a whole foods co-op and training / skills share venue that is a 'go to' community hub
- Look at reducing our reliance on the cash economy through exploring LETS / time banking & street banking.
- Creating sustainablitz (like permablitz, but for increasing sustainability of households)
So they now have set up the Inner West Commons, and their first project was the LETs which is being piloted currently!
Feedback from one attendee: "Thanks for the inspiration. I went along for a chat and cake, and came away inspired. I have so many things buzzing around in my head about what I should and could do, it's giving me a headache. I wish I had gone to one of these catch ups sooner."

It's a pretty exciting space, so if you want to get involved, keep an eye on the Events calendar and THB Facebook
Permaculture Practice
This group meets regularly and is designed to encourage the sharing and practising of permaculture design techniques. A project stemming from this group is the Newport Community Initiated Garden, which is a work in progress, located next to the Substation in Newport. This will become a regular meeting space and a place to host community activities focussed on sustainability
