It was invigorating to come together and spend time with people who are on the same journey, devoting their free time and energy. Plus they were diverse, interesting and friendly.
One common theme was about the appropriate scale of the Transition Initiative. We chose Hobsons Bay originally because (mostly) the people who volunteered to be part of the Initiating Group came from across the area. And we thought that as 'Transition Hobsons Bay', it would be easier to converse with Council.
But we learned that we weren't the only Transition group who hoped that sooner or later there'd be enough community support to be able to split off into suburbs/neighbourhoods. Transition Darebin are piloting a focus on one suburb (Preston). I'll write more about this issue of scale in my next blog post about a forum I went to yesterday.
