The work we do is not funded by Government. We have to ask for donations, and we rely greatly on the donations and kindness of our local community.
A couple of times a year HBRN and WWW join forces to raise money through film screenings at The Sun Theatre, Yarraville. Our regular filmgoers will testify that these are really enjoyable nights. We see a lot of sadness in our work, but we can still take pleasure from watching good films together, carrying into the cinema a glass of wine from The Sun’s excellent cellar, and sharing a good laugh over raffles and chatter with friends.
The Sun gives us the opportunity to show our films as previews, before most other Melbournians have had a chance to view them!
The first of our film fundraisers for 2016 is:
THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY.
Friday April 29, arrive 6.30 for 7 pm screening.
Starring Dev Patel, Jeremy Irons, Stephen Fry. Jeremy Northam, Devika Bhise & Toby Jones.
This film explores the brilliance of a man many believed could decipher the very fabric of the universe and possibly of existence itself. Driven by his destiny for a greater calling, Ramanujan’s life was turned upside down when Cambridge professor, G.H. Hardy, discovered his talents and plucked him from obscurity in his homeland of India. The pair would go on to become unlikely friends and achieve one of history’s most bewildering and productive collaborations. As mathematicians they worked on the most complex problems known to man and much of Ramanujan’s work is still relevant in maths and science today.
Enjoying good films together is a great way of supporting the work of Hobsons Bay Refugee Network and West Welcome Wagon. So please book soon.
