On Sunday afternoon we opened our productive, achievable garden up. Call it 'giving back' or even better 'paying forward'. In retrospect, I'm amazed it happened in so few years.
Some thoughts:
- SGA did a great job of attracting people. They came in a steady, easy flow, a mix of locals and from across Melbourne.
- Everyone was so respectful. Our chickens didn't want a bar of the open garden (we have 'chicken' chickens) and stayed resolutely out of view in their house. No-one violated their privacy.
- Many people were interested in the fruit and vegie swaps. Its not surprising- swaps are for this crowd!
- It was a pleasure to be able to share our fruit & vegie gardening journey with interested and interesting people.
Thanks Wendy, Kelly and Christine for volunteering at our garden. How did it go at your garden Mara? Although SGA's insurance agent wouldn't cover Tiki's place, she's going to write about her rooftop garden for SGA. Keep an eye out... www.sgaonline.org.au
